Objective: The purpose of this study is to examine the influence of parenting attitudes and sociodemographic factors on adolescent delinquency in Korea.
Methods: Research subjects are 1,841 middle school freshmen surveyed using the 7th result of ¡®Korea Children & Youth Panel Survey (KCYPS) 2010¡¯, which was conducted in 2016.
Results: First, significant correlation is found between the delinquency of middle school students and the factors of their socio-demographic background. Male adolescents having problematic friends are more likely to behave badly. Second, the results of a hierarchical regression analysis show that Korean boys who have a number of delinquent friends and whose parents display unaffectionate and/or overly involved attitudes tend to be engaged in delinquency.
Conclusions: Based on the results, discussion is offered on how systematic family intervention should be conducted for adolescents at a high risk for delinquency.
